As is obvious, I am not a professional movie reviewer. My husband and I see a ton of movies and I want to remember my first opinions of and/or experiences of them. Lately we've been watching movies that our actors from "Schism" have done and I'm finding an honest love for low budget movies. The more obscure the better! Anyway, I base my reviews on how entertaining the movie is (even if it's so-bad-it's-good), how memorable, or how much it made me think. My ratings are:
5 cheers - perfect
4 - very impressive
3 - definitely worth a look
2 - not bad, not great
1 - sucked
0 - total waste of time
My favorite genre is 1970s, horror, anything campy, goofy or downright disturbing. If I leave a movie feeling disturbed, I'm very impressed and happy. Even if I didn't like the movie as a whole. I can tolerate rape scenes (some people can't) and I love exploitation, nudity and foreign films. The only thing I cannot handle - if animals are hurt (unless it's obviously laughably fake). I've never seen "Canibal Hollocaust" or "Gummo" for that reason. My all-time favorite movies are:
1. Taxi Driver
2. Eraserhead
3. Heavenly Creatures
4. Dead Ringers
5. Vertigo
My alter ego loves anything corny or sappy. I collect Disney cartoons - and I cry stupidly and very easily. I love children's movies, anything animated - especially Miyazaki who is best known for "Spirited Away," which won the Oscar. My favorite animated movies are:
1. My Neighbor Totoro
2. Jack & the Beanstalk (from the 70s)
3. Bambi (I know...)
4. Nightmare b/f Christmas
5. Animalympics (hey, '70s)
My all-time favorite cult movies:
1. Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill!
2. Spider Baby
3. Rock N Roll High School
4. Eating Raoul
5. Forbidden Zone
Stay tuned!
